San Juan Islands Catrike Tour
Share
My friends Mel and Janet, owners of RecumbentPDX, decided to sponsor a trike tour of the San Juan Islands this year. They invited 25 of their closest friends to spend six days trike riding in the islands, eating, and just hanging out. Also attending were a number of old friends of mine, including Matthew Galat (Jayoe), Pat Franz (owner of T-Cycle), Sylvia Halpern (Myrtle the Turtle), Gary Solomon (Laid Back Bike Report), Zach Kaplan (Zach Kaplan Cycles) and Krispy Steve Sussman (designer of the Finer Recliner neckrest).
Mel and Janet made all of the arrangements, including trikes for everyone to ride, lodging at a quaint inn on San Juan Island, meals (both community-style in a banquet hall and eating out), itineraries and pretty much everything you could ever think of and more!
I have a fondness for the San Juan Islands. After all, it was back in 1997 when I first saw a recumbent there (BikeE) and thus began my adventures in recumbent cycling. They are also just beautiful islands with low traffic and plenty of amenities.
After flying into SeaTac airport and catching a ride with other riders up to Anacortes, we began our trike trip over to San Juan Island.
The ferry was running late (a theme of the week), but we made it, got settled in and had a great dinner. Tomorrow the trike riding would begin!
